Most of the time I am using as desktop manager ratpoison and sometimes IceWM. However, I still need some applications from kde and gnome. If I emerge only these applications I have problems adjusting the fonts. That's why I emerged all kde and gnome. Apart from some specific applications, what I need from kde is only kdm for graphical login and "KDE Control Center" for adjusting the fonts. For gnome, I only need gnome-font-properties for adjusting the fonts. For gnome fonts I also use the file .gtkrc-2.0 which contains the line gtk-font-name="Sans 15". My question is: what are the packages which I should emerge in order to keep the number of installed packages as minimal as possible? |

kdebase contains kdm and kcontrol, so the only KDE things youll need to emerge are kdelibs and kdebase (possibly arts too...) _________________ we are microsoft, lower your firewalls and surrender your pc's. we will add your biological and technological distinctiveness to our own. your culture will adapt and service us. resistance is futile. |

Thank you very much for your answer. I would be very grateful if somebody could give me a similar answer for gnome. |

You could give gnome-light a shot...
This might be what you are looking for (taken from the ebuild):
Quote: | # This is a wrapper for the 'light' Gnome2 desktop,
# This should only consist of the bare minimum of libs/apps needed
# It is basicly the gnome-base/gnome without all extra apps |
Watch this comment, too:
