How do I authenticate the users at linux client with the linux server with samba NOT with NIS. |

Exactly the same way as with a Windows share:
- add the user on the server with smbpasswd
- mount something on the client with either smbmount or an fstab entry _________________ >>> emerge (3 of 7) mcse/70-293 to /

sorry, didn't get you.
but I am talking about authentication. from the linux server through smb protocol not with nis. |

Set up samba as a domain controller on the server, set up winbind on the client. |

I have been looking a bit at Samba recently since it will allow my M$-dependent friends to plug-and-play into my network. Is there a good, comprehensive guide to samba on linux/BSD somewhere on the net. One that goes throught he basics as well.
