Hi,

I have an AMD64, MSI K8 Neo motherboard, and two 80 Gig Harddrives (Western digital, Samsung). The first drive has an old installation of RedHat that I want to install Gentoo on. The second has Windows XP, which I boot by going into the BIOS boot menu and selecting it.
The problem, when I use the AMD64-Live-2004.2 none of my harddrives are seen. All I get is hdc which is the cdrom.
Slax live, Knoppix live, and RedHat 9.1 boot disk all see the drives no problems? In the log file I see a couple of lines about the two drives, but when I look in /dev/... there is only /dev/hdc. I tried looking in /dev/ide/...l but that just lead only to the cdrom.

What should I look for.?

:(

what type of hard drives are they? Are they just plain old Parrallel ATA, or are they sata or scsi or something?

Sorry yeah forgot, they are just plain parallel ATA... Nothing special... One thing the CDRom is attached as master on the second drive (the XP drive).

could make sure RAID is disabled in BIOS, try passing noraid option to kernel at boot

ie after livecd has loaded type in

gentoo noraid

mine didnt recognise HD's till i entered that

if your livecd boots up try having a look at dmesg see if theres any listing for your drives there.

I will try the noraid boot. But apparently this is a known bug with the Promise ATA controller

The bug has been reported (number 36498).

By the way version 2004.1 works fine.

The CD you are using has ide-disk compiled as a module. Your harddrives will be detected after you do this.
Code:
# modprobe ide-disk

I guess the devs assumed everyone would be using SATA drives.
