|
|
I just building the kernel 2.6.8.1 on a freshly formated reiserfs patitions:
hda5-ext3-/boot
hda6-reiserfs-/
hda7-swap
hda8-reiserfs-/usr
I build both gentoo-dev and development
with gentoo-dev, when the system boot, The screen goes berserk, then freezes, I figure it's something with the framebuffer driver, didn't want to fix it now. So I build development-sources
and no FB issue this time, but following kernel panic:
VFS: Cannot open root device "hda6" or unknown-block (3,6)
Pleae append a correct "root=" boot option
Kernel panic: VFS: unable to mount root fs on unknown-block (3,6)
Please help? |

Are you sure you didn't forget to build it into the kernel? _________________ That rank under my username doesn't mean I know everything, it just means I ask a lot of questions. |

I'm using reiserfs on my / too, and never had a problem with it...
Running 2.6.8.1-love1 atm without any problems (after have a LOT of trouble with the vasefb )
you probably missed something in your kernel config... |

Wanna take a look? my.config. If you want to know my system config, well it's a IBM T42, model # 2373-3vu.
Maybe it's because you are using the love-kernel hence no problem? This is off-topic: if I want to use 2.6.7 kernel instead (mainly because gentoo-dev-sources (2.6.8r1), have problem have bootflash), what source should I "emerge"?
not sure if this is related to my problem: I partitioned my whole HDD with partition magic, which seems to have complained about different CHS value (and fixed it itself...) |
