I have a set of colors I use on my desktop system, but I'd like the terminal colors (primarily the background) to change if I open a session or ssh into a different system so it's immediately obvious if a given terminal window is local or not.
Can I do this with gnome-terminal? It doesn't use .Xdefaults, so I'm unclear on how to proceed. |

I think you should do some research about your .bash_profile.
you can use a simple if-statement to change colours depending on hostname (very simple. you have to have an exact copy of your .bash_profile on every server you want special colors on tho...)
