I have a Western Digital 120GB SE hard drive. I was thinking of buying a Speeze external enclosure (USB2/Firewire).
I have an Audigy2 with a firewire port, and all the firewire modules load properly. But I have heard that firewire external hard drives have issues.
I was wondering what the chances are that the external drive will work *reliably* through the firewire port on the Audigy2? Or am I better off slapping a USB2 card into the system (I have an IOGear card that I know works)?
thanks!

From browsing through the forums, there seems to be some issues with firewire hard drives and the 2.6.x line of kernels. However, I've seen some claims that it was fixed in 2.6.6, and others needed a patch to make it work.
I'm using 2.6.8-gentoo-r1 - I'm hoping that all has been fixed in this version. However, I do have "Enable Phys DMA Support for SBP2" turned on, but it says (Debug) next to it...is this going to cause me problems?
Thanks! |

Well, I guess there's no harm finding out the hard way.
And, if it comes to it, I'll just throw in the USB2 card.
cheers! |
