I finnally installed gentoo distribution 2004.2 from the LiveCD ! When i boot with grub in text mode ( choosing first the kernel location and the booting ) it boots , but hangs at a certain moment and reports this Kernel panic : VFS : Could not mount root file system
If i let the system boot by its self it stops in a blank screen right after the grub logo . the same thing happens with lilo! The config files lilo.conf and grub.conf are configured corectly ! But i will still try to post them when i arrive at my workstation..
Any way any kind of opinions and feedback will be most welcomed!
- Please note that i have compiled in my kernel the modules for ext2,3 pci ide chipsets and IDE/ATA/MFM support ! I'm totaly out of ideas ! So please help ! _________________ If ppl were left alone to do what they damn well please they would start copying one another |

OK this error happens a lot, and the solution will probably not be too difficult. Something went wrong / was forgotten and we only have to find it. First guess: how does your /etc/fstab look like? I you post it, please add your exact disk layout (output from fdisk or cfdisk). |
