What things should I do administratively to my box to make sure it is up to date etc? Like emerge world, emerge rsync? And what kind of time frame should I do this? ie. every week, every month...
Thanks for any tips

I rsync every day (sometime more than once because I'm bored). I then do an 'emerge -pu world' to look at what's new. Based on that I sometimes do an 'emerge -u world' or just individual packages depending on the situation (like do I have time to let everything compile or does that really need updating). |

Why not set up a chron job that will do a emerge rsync && emerge -u world like at 0200 every night or so? That's what I'm using right now anyway _________________ Hmm.. Of course, these are MY opinions - likely to be just as flawed as anyone else's. Um, really, I guess you should assume everyone's speaking out of some external influence. Believe in whatever makes sense to you. |

Monitoring log files is another administrative task.
Code: | cd /var/log/
ls
tail daemon.log
