Sto provando ad installare gentoo su un iBook G4 ma ho trovato subito problemi con la configurazione della rete...
Ho seguto le guide passo passo (sia la PPC-Install che quella di Silian87) ma anche un semplice ping non funziona (unknown Host).... Ho configurato l'interfaccia di rete, la tavola di route e gli indirizzi DNS. E ricontrollato tutto 5 volte...

Maggiori info:
-il ping di un pc in rete funziona;
-il ping di un indirizzo (www.yahoo.com) dà unknown host;
-il ping di un indirizzo ip pubblico (216.109.118.78 ) dà Network is unreachable;

Beh, intendi se il router funziona? Certo, lo sto usando anche adesso per postare  .

intendo dire, se quando installi la rete ti viene fornita da un altro pc in LAN (oppure dal router), se lo hai configurato come default gateway (domanda ovvia ma non si scarta mail nulla)  |

Il comando route mi dà sulla prima riga:
Destination:default
Gateway: 192.168.1.1 (quello del router)
Genmask: 255.255.255.0;
Flags: UG;
Metric:1;
Ref:0;
Use:0;
Iface eth0.

Ke cavolata!!!!
Ho cannato io a scrivere l'indirizzo di netmask nella tavola del route.... 
(genmask deve essere 0.0.0.0)
