How does one type in unicode characters from X?
I am used to ALT+0233 for example to create an accented letter E (in Windows) but have not been able to figure out how to do it in Linux.
One post DID refer to using the ALT-GR key-combinations. What in the HECK is that? ALT-Grapefruit? ALT-Granny?
Anyhow, I bet there are millions of users from Quebec who know the answer to this one!
Thank you (et je te remerci en avant, mais sans accents) _________________ Who controls the past, controls the future. Who controls the present, controls the past. |

I'm interested as well. I have as much unicode as I need, but really only accidentally: I set LANG=en_US.UTF-8 and now: On a virtual console or on an xterm (but on no other terminal emulator) if I type alt+(anykey) it gives me a unicode char. I just made a table of them, and use that for the little bit of unicode input I need. But that only works in an xterm or on the virtual consoles. _________________ The power of Unix coupled with a pleasing interface and scores of usable desktop applications is a disgusting perversion of everything Unix stands for. |

Alt-GR = right alt key
On french canadian keyboard, this key has "Alt Car" printed on it. _________________ PC (Gentoo): Athlon 64 @2.5 Ghz, A8V, 1 GB ram, ATI 9600XT, 160 + 250 GB HDD

Ok then. ALT-GR + 0233 does not do anything in any program.
I am particularly interested in using abiword and mozilla. I NEED to be able to enter unicode ( UTF-8 ) because I live in a country that USES accented characters.
I can SEE the UTF-8 characters ok. How do I CREATE them?
Surely this is the simplest thing in the world... isn't it? _________________ Who controls the past, controls the future. Who controls the present, controls the past. |
