I am new to gentoo. I am installing a stage 1 of 2004.2. Bootstrap appears to execute fine. The problem comes when i try to run the emerge system command to install the portage tree. It runs for about an hour and has hung twice at checking getaddrinfo bug... The first time I let it wait for about 5 hours and nothing happened. Any ideas on what the problem could be?? If you need any of the install information (CFLAGS, USE) let me know. Any help is appriciated. Thanks |

I'm getting the same problem. Unfortunately I don't have a solution. I just like to complain about it. I got my error when I did an 'emerge -u system'. I get the same when I do an 'emerge -u python', so python is definitely the culprit. Gotta love this gentoo install process. Seems that if you do it right the first try without any problems then you probably did it wrong.
Any suggestions out there? |

I got the same error during the install on my amd64 box.
After looking at several other forum topics on this issue, there still seems to be no known cause for the hang. hangs during the autoconf of the python-2.3.4 package Code: | ..snip..
checking for getaddrinfo... yes
checking getaddrinfo bug... |
I am not using the java USE flag (a fix that was suggested in another post).
The material I used for installtion was:
install-amd64-minimal-20041026
stage1-amd64-20041025
I rebooted, remounted, and rechrooted into the box and tried emerge system again, and the emerge system finshed with no hangs. |
