Occasional kmail GPG signing failure

From time to time, and seemingly at random intervals, kmail fails to sign my emails. Instead of getting a dialog box asking for my passphrase, I get a dialog box with an error from gpgme-openpgp.so that says "#19: No Passphrase" and "Your configuration may be invalid or the plug-in damaged".

I'll be working fine most of the time, using kmail, signing messages, and then one time I'll log in, fire up kmail, and "all of a sudden" it will start giving me this error. Once it does this once I seem to be hosed. Only a reboot seems to fix it, and even that is not for sure.

I can still sign messages by selecting Options -> Select Crypto Module -> inline.

Any thoughts?
