there's also which automatically backs up old configuration files and allows easy rollback of any change made. |

Never, use dispatch-conf if you break your configs too often. |

Yep. I've suffered from etc-update! I think I waited until a very large number of confg files needed updating and then just automatically updated them all through laziness. This broke one or two things, most noticeable being apache php support and xvnc logins.
Since then I keep an eye on the changes required and if it concerns a config file I remember changing then I manually check the update. |

The problem I get is that I start an update, go away and come back when its done... then I can't be bothered going through all the etc-update shit (its such a CHORE) so I ignore it.. a few days later I've forgottern them and the next time I reboot.. I have MANY hours of fixing to do _________________ 2800+XP A7N8X FX6600GT

I have no reason to use etc-update. I nuke all changes that "have to be merged". Leave my configs alone, dammit. |

Maybe some people don't actually use etc-update, and just hit -5 whenever they run it. No wonder things fsck up. _________________ word. |

Never. Didn't know it was possible. It doesn't seem that hard. If the configs do get messed up, you can always manually fix them. But really, you can never completely mess up a system with the config files, AFAIK. _________________ Desktop: ABit AN8, Athlon64 X2 4400+ 939 2.75GHz, 2x1GB Corsair XMS DDR400, 2x160GB SATA RAID-0, 2x20"W, Vista Ultimate x64
