Hey everyone. Im new to gentoo, a friend of mine has been bugging me to get some linux disto on my machine for sometime now. and i think it is time because windows is really starting to suck and piss me off alot. I am going to be installing it as a multiboot in a few days, and since i am new, i was wondering if anyone has any tips, tricks, suggestions, etc to newbies like me....

Patience. Linux is not windows: it actually does exactly what you tell it to do. Even if you didn't realize what you were saying.

Read the help files, and learn your way around this forum. And subscribe to gentoo-announce-subscribe@gentoo.org (send a blank email, then wait for a confirmation notice). And don't be afraid to ask questions. Even dumb ones. 'Cause that's how you learn.

One last thing: Buckle your seat-belt, and return your seat to its upright position. Linux rocks!

EDIT: You might want to check this thread out, too (its an introduction to the iptables firewall) https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic.php?t=159133

Helps a lot if you have another computer handy to look stuff up on during the install, just in case something goes wrong.
