Gentoo is installed, but I'm having trouble w/ my network connection. I have a dual boot setup w/ XP and Gentoo running on dhcp with a cable/dsl router on a cable modem. NIC is compiled into the kernel.
I have got it to the point where my NIC loads on bootup, but I have to run dhcpcd eth0 each time I start my system to get the connection to work. I am then able to do emerge to get the programs I need.
ifconfig shows up and running for lo and eth0. I have searched this forum for 3 days reading on this issue. In my /etc/conf.d/net file i have heard about "commenting out" the areas that do no pertain to my setup. I know that the iface = dhcp is correct, but what else either needs to be turned on or commented out for a dhcp setup?
Last, I want to make sure that commenting out means removing the # from the command. Thx, Scott |

If you're running plain vanilla DHCP, then that is the only option you need.

No -- exactly the opposite. "Commenting out" means placing a # in front of the command. So, the following line is "commented out":
Code: | #iface_eth0="192.168.1.2 broadcast 192.168.1.255 netmask 255.255.255.0" |
while the following line is not commented out:
