EDIT: See 2 posts down for solution
---
I am having a problem with wine which I just can't seem to solve. I have nptl enabled, but I can't seem to find any reports of wine trouble with nptl so i think it's something different.
No matter what I try to run in wine one of the pthreads will hang at 100% cpu and the program goes nowhere. This happens at one point or another in every program I try to run. I can't find any relation to the spot.
dcom98.exe hangs after it finishes installing
ie6setup.exe hangs after it prompts to create the directory to install to
complete.exe from ldraw.org hangs after I say yes to extracting the packages (and never makes it to extracting anything)
mlcad.exe hangs when I open the dialog to browse for the ldraw packages.
Any help would be appreciated. When I have the CPU cycles in a couple of nights I plan on recomiling without nptl. Just to try. I really could use it for java things though. _________________ http://www.wombatorium.net

I recompiled without nptl and the same problem exists. I investigated further and both wineserver and wine-pthread (or wine-kthread) are sucking up the cpu (66%/33% respectively).
I really need Internet Explorer for this project and I would hate to switch back to Windows now. _________________ http://www.wombatorium.net |

Reiser4 is the problem. Make sure fake_windows is on a non-Reiser4 partition. Also make sure wine isn't going to try to access any Reiser4 partions (ex. your root file system)

I also have this problem. Does anyone know any other solutions? I'd really like to switch to a completely Reiser4 system. |

wait for a reiser4 where cd file says not a directory instead of access denied. _________________ http://www.wombatorium.net |

its not too much of a hassle.. but doesn't seem to be a documented problem.
Took me forever and a day to figure out what was wrong though. _________________ http://www.wombatorium.net |

I just switched to a reiser4 system.
I copied over my old installation into the new drive and after reading your posts I checked out Cedega (aka WineX).
Everything worked fine. If Cedega is a based on the Wine code, why no problem? Maybe it isn't reiser4.
And in this post
https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic.php?t=198661&highlight=reiser4+wine
Dracnor has had success with regular Wine and reiser4. |

I'm having the same problem with all recent wine snapshots.

It seems likely that a reiser4-aggrivated bug was introduced after the WineX/Cedega fork; I cannot reproduce this problem with wine-20040121

Reiser4 is only mentioned in that post as part of the love-sources patchset changes; it's premature to conclude that wine was actually running on a reiser4 partition from that mention alone. |

Earliest wine snapshot showing this problem seems to be 20040309; 20040213 runs properly for me. |

I have the same problem! wine-preloader started hanging after switching to reiser4. It seems that if I make a brand new .wine directory I can run one application, but if I try to run another wine-preloader goes to 100% and never stops.
I filed a bug here: Bug #74163 |

It seems that Wine+Reiser4 bug is solved in recent Wine CVS. I didn't have time to test it so I can't confirm.
