Hi all.
I updated my gnome from 2.4 to 2.6.
There have been so many problems,
but anyway, the very thing I want to solve is that
I cannot start vmware-workstation.
Of course, I could launch vmware before update.
Whever I try to launch vmware I get the message below.

Can you start vmware in other window managers? twm is installed with X so try that if you don't have fluxbox or something else installed.
For the gnome go ahead and delete everything hidden in your home that has to do with gnome.
.gnome
.gnome2
.gconfd
.gconf
.metacity
.nautilus
and anything else that looks like it belongs to gnome. When you restart gnome again they will be created but with the 2.6 configs.
You can also make a new user and start gnome and see if you have those problems and if vmware starts, but deleting all the hidden files for your user will be the same. |

I made a new user and tried launch vmware.
But the result was the same.  |

Today, I solved the problem.
The cause was not the GNOME 
I changed X11 module "freetype" to "xtt".
Eventually, VMware succeeded to launch.

whatever the problem is, your solutions don't work for me.
I use KDE and have the same errors :/
