I am trying to get Gentoo going on an Ultra 5.
I've modified the silo.conf to be what I think should be appropriate. WHen I run 'silo' I get "Fatal error: cannot open second stage loader /boot/second.b"
What is this and where do I get it? The install docs are very vague about boot setup on sparc gentoo. Even mentioning grub later on.
I'm confused.
Any help is greatly appreciated! _________________ "There are more things in heaven and earth than are dreamt of in your philosophy" |

Hiya catalyst1,
I have included a copy of my current silo.conf from an ultra 5
partition = 1
root = /dev/hda1
timeout = 10
image = /vmlinuz
label = Gentoo
And here is my partition table (for clarification)
Disk /dev/hda (Sun disk label): 16 heads, 63 sectors, 17660 cylinders
Units = cylinders of 1008 * 512 bytes
Device Flag Start End Blocks Id System
/dev/hda1 0 17479 8809416 83 Linux native
/dev/hda2 u 17479 17660 91224 82 Linux swap
As for /boot/second.b, it is installed by the silo package. If you made a seperate parition for /boot make sure it is mounted when you run silo. |

I got it working. I must not have had my root partition mounted when I extracted the Stage 3. All the required files for SILO were in the "wrong" /boot. _________________ "There are more things in heaven and earth than are dreamt of in your philosophy" |
