Code: |
root@tokyo /home/mike # emerge -uDpvt world
These are the packages that I would merge, in reverse order:
Calculating world dependencies ...done!
[nomerge ] sys-apps/vixie-cron-3.0.1-r4 (-selinux)
[ebuild N ] mail-mta/ssmtp-2.60.9 -ipv6 -mailwrapper -md5sum +ssl 0 kB
Total size of downloads: 0 kB

This happens to all of us The reason vixie-cron needs ssmtp is so that it can send e-mails to give reports of what's been run and if it was successful. It doesn't need ssmtp specifically but it does need an mta and ssmtp is the default virtual/mta. _________________ Search | Read | Answer | Report | Strip

Does it have to have an MTA? I've been uninstalling ssmtp on every box I've set up and running vixie-cron just fine. I'm from the "read the logs" school and am moving away from mail based systems as much as possible. |

You have to clean the dead letter that shows up in the users home directory when vixie-cron tries to mail you. My question is if can find me for a dead letter why cant it just post me there _________________ An A-Z Index of the Linux BASH command line |
