I just got done reading a topic about newer iBook components not being supported under linux... I just purchased a..
14 Inch iBook 1.2 GHz g4 with 60 GB HD, and AP Extreme card... I read the AP Extreme card is not supported.. are there any other problems I might run into down the road if I try to install gentoo on this machine |

i hear that sleep is supported on the new kernel 2.6.8 or 9 ???
and not sure if thats with or without X? something to do with the g4 and frame buffer ???
might work if you exit X and sleep in console. leaving and starting X takes alot less time that shutdown.
i ordered one and still waiting, so i wont know till then. |

Please don't spread this rumor without any supporting info. If you can point to a patch to enable it, or a kernel changelog, or name developer who says it works and what hardware they said it worked on, that would be very exciting. But until then, you are just getting people's hopes up for no reason.
It's definitely not supported on vanilla 2.6.8, and there's nothing in the changelog up to 2.6.9-rc1 about it. So where's the code? |

They're talking about G3 ibook, on G4 machines it's another story...
At the moment sleep isn't supported on G4 machines, only a suspend to disk, look at this thread. _________________ ~ "Progress is merely a realisation of utopias" ~ |
