Hello there,
just got my new dream machine Athlon64 3500+, Nvidia 6800, Asus A8V Deluxe mobo, 120gig SATA and 1 gig dual chanel ram...
going to start Gentoo from bootstrap and wondering if you guys got some tips for me not mentioned in the user guide? something to watch for, not to do... you know, usefull tips like that

I found it all went pretty smoothly, actually.
I would plan on setting up that 32-bit chroot mentioned in the 32-bit compatibility section... in the end it's simpler.
You'll want to use mount --bind to mount /tmp and /dev into the chroot; /use/portage/distfiles is a good idea unless you particularly want to download things twice, and probably your home directory, too.
I have sudo set up to allow:
sudo linux32 chroot /mnt/gentoo32 su david -
Which lets me have a handy icon to launch a 32-bit terminal. |
