For broadband access under Windows XP my ISP supplied a Speedtouch 330 modem. I can't seem to get it to work under Gentoo (or any other distro) so I wondered whether I'd be better replacing it with a cheap router?

It seems that since the router would use my NIC as a WAN interface rather than the USB port as used by the Speedtouch, this would be less problematic. Is this the case? Can anyone advice me further?

In general one can say that ethernet modems ( where routers are inlcuded ) are a bit less OS-dependent.
