AAAAH BEING IN IRAQ SUCKS! Help please

I am currently deployed in Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. I dont have access to throw my personal laptop on the network for interenet connectivity and our bandwidth sucks so bad I had to get a hookup to allow this site so I could get a forum post in. I have a Sony Vaio and I am having BUCU problems with the refresh rates. It is a Sony Vaio PCG-FRV37 and I emailed Sony and they havent responded in about 2 months. Everytime I do a build, I finish so I reboot and the screen goes to the pretty Vaio screen then goes blank. The computer is still on but I get nothing on the screen. Any help is appreciated

Can you run from CD? I.e. you get through the install just fine?

What bootloader are you using?
Do you get any errors when compiling your kernel?
Did you use genkernel to compile your kernel?

I can boot from the gentoo cd fine. I get all the way through installation fine. Yes I am using Genkernel with a stage 3 install. As soon as I finish installation and configuring XFREE and all I reboot to boot to grubloader and I get a blank screen. It looks as if the screen shuts off and the computer stays powered on. All I can get to is the pretty Vaio boot screen during POST... any help would be greatly appreciated...

It might work if you manually configured your kernel.
You can set support for sony viao thingy there. I did the same for my dell.
