i have acpi and apm support compiled into my kernel on my desktop. is there any point to that? can i turn all that off?

You do not need both, but I think you need at least one so that the pc can turn itself of on shutdown. And ACPI does a lot more than just power management, i.e it is used to figure out pci irq routing and such, so it might be necessary on some pc's. |
