|
|
Ok, first of all, I'm new to linux so please bear with my ignorance.
I started installing gentoo on an old system to play around with, I used the handbook and everything was working with a few hangups I managed to solve.
However, when I try to download the stage 2 tarball, it gets about halfway through the download, then kills links2. I've tried several times with the same result. Anyone know what I might be doing wrong? |

What happens if you grab the URI using Links2, then actually download it by using wget? Does it kill wget then? _________________ ~~ Peter: Programmer, Mathematician, STEM & Free Software Advocate, Enlightened Agent, Transhumanist, Fedora contributor

"wget http://server/filename" will download a file. It can do HTTP and FTP.
Also, where are you trying to download the file to? Are you in the /mnt/gentoo directory or the root directory?
And have you tried to download it from a different server? |

Ok, moving on..
emerge sync failed.

I suspect it's the firwall, so I tried emerge-webrsync. It says command not found.
So do I need to load it manually? How do I do this and where do I find it? |

emerge-webrsync is included in stage 1,2, and 3, so if you dont have it, I would assume you had a bad stage file, or perhaps you extracted it in the wrong place.
Better re-trace your steps in that area. |
