linux on iPod

i've done a quick search and so far i haven't found a topic about the fact that there is a project on sourceforge about porting linux on the ipod. i'm already running linux on my ipod. looks so cute - linux even works along the apple firmware. it's still in beta status and a lot needs to be done but i'm confident.

saw this a while ago.

what i find interesting is the possibility of getting OGG files to play on an ipod.

but its still not real time :cry:

What do they mean not in real time? Does it have to buffer the music before playing, or is there a long pause 1/2 way through the track?

Based on my experience, I think it means that it can't play a track simultaneously without skipping some parts of it.

I never tried playing ogg files, but when playing mp3s on my 3G ipod, it would pause every 5 - 10 seconds and then resume playing.

It was kind of nice to show off to everybody: Look, Linux runs on my ipod, and of course to play around with it, but other than that it wasn't of any real use. It was quite a battery hog though!
