Basically, what I'm trying to do is set my IP address manually (instead of using DHCP). Currently, I'm using DHCP to get my IP address. I'm behind a Linksys router (BEFSR41). I have my router set up to forward certain ports to 192.168.1.10 (already set there from using windows on the same machine). What I've currently tried. I've stopped eth0, and edited /etc/conf.d/net, commented the line for DHCP and uncommented the line above, and put in the proper ip address (I removed broadcast xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx, since I wasn't sure what to set it at, and I read I could just leave it out) and save the file. I then edited my /etc/hosts file and removed the line that had 127.0.0.1 and put in the ip address above. Then, I started eth0 back up. It wouldn't connect to the internet but, I could ping the router (but, that was all). If there is a step that I'm missing, does anybody know what it is? Thanks for the help.

Hmm leave the 127.0.0.1 in the hosts just add your IP aswell

Maby dns problem can you ping an outside IP address(not hostname)? if so try adding some dns servers to the /etc/resolv.conf

As Valhalla said, put the "127.0.0.1 localhost" line back in. The step that you're missing is setting routes_eth0 in /etc/conf.d/net. There's an example commented out that you should be able to adapt.
