I just finished my installation. Upon reboot i get an error stating that "mount command failled" and that "proc fs is not supported". it allows my to enter the root pw for maintenance, but I'm not sure what to fix. Does this sound like I may not have checked virtual file system support when configuring my kernel? |

Did you include the /proc file system when compiling your kernel? Reboot into the liveCD, mount all the partitions and chroot just like you would when installing gentoo, and reconfigure the kernel, making sure you do. |

When you asked Quote: | Did you include the /proc file system when compiling your kernel? | Are you talking under the: File Systems ---------->
[*]/proc filesystem support? |

Yes, forgetting to check that will cause that error message.
Could you also post the "proc" line from /etc/fstab (be sure to copy it exactly, as a typo could also cause this error message). |

How can I post the proc line? I will try and ssh in, but I haven't been able to configure anything yet, so i'm not sure if that will work.. Is there an ssh boot option? |

This error is because /proc filesystem support was not added to your kernel, not because of a fstab error. |

Actually, without the exact error message, this error could have been caused by a typo in fstab (if the type was "prco" or something). Which is why we need the exact line from /etc/fstab.
You can boot up with a liveCD, mount the filesystems as you did in the installation process, and then use chroot to get into the Gentoo system. At this point, you can look at /etc/fstab and, more importantly, check your kernel's configuration. |

Yep, support for proc was not configured into my kernel. I must have missed it becaue its the first menu option and the cursor is the checkbox. I'm recompiling now. |

Well, I recompiled and got the same error. Quote: | "The mount commnad failled with error: none has wrong device number or fs type proc not supported" |
