|
|
When I boot with an 2.6.8 kernel (-r1, -r2 or -r3), my mail clients (Thunderbird and Evolution) do not connect to my ISP.
I have switch some times between 2.6.7 and 2.6.8, each time verfying that both of my mail clients works well with 2.6.7, and not with 2.6.8. No other parameters have been changed.
Does anybody have an idea where to look? |

Some people have suggested doing this:
Code: | echo 0 >/proc/sys/net/ipv4/tcp_window_scaling |
This value used to default to 0, but now defaults to 1 in the 2.6.8 series. If this does fix your problem, let your mail server provider know that they are using broken hardware. |

Yes, that solved my problem. Thank you for your answer.
When comparing with kernel 2.6.7, I found the same "1" value, but it lets the mail clients connect.
If your have a little more time, and I would be grateful, I would ask you two more related questions:
I try now to make this value permanent (until my ISP change his hardware?).
How is it possible?
I will contact my ISP, but I would have a little more information on the exact nature of "broken hardware". Would you explain me that, even shortly, or point me to a source of information?
Thank you in advance |
