I'll cut to the chase, I recently changed to another ISP an thus got a new way to connect to Internet. This new connection is (at least Windows tells me that) pppoe. The other was, well I don't know, but it used dhcp.
I have read the handbook a dozen times and tried also to survey this forum, but I haven't found anything that would help me.
Dhcpcd doesn't work, I get a timeout (it said it was terminated when I tried the verbose mode), although when I view the log file (or info I don't remember) I see get an IP, info of a GW, NM - everything I want. All of these could by all means be from my old Internet connection - I don't know.
Also, I don't have access to either ADSL-SETUP nor RP-PPPOE, no Internet - no emerge. Then I tried the live-cd boot because with the older Internet connection it worked right away - so I tried, but alas, no salvation - it didn't work with either.

Help me, please.
Thanks.[/b]

No, no router.

I solved it however by using the livecd disc, chrooted, emerged rp-pppoe.
Easy huh? Hindsight is a beautiful thing....
