I have installed a Gentoo Linux 2004.2 (stage 3) with kernel 2.6.7, and I'm now trying to install a speedtouch USB modem but it doesn't work.
It seems to be a problem with devfs. Firstly, I've seen that the kernel was compiled without devfs (there is a message during the boot). So I've recompilde my kernel with the options that was in the Gentoo handbook.
But after that, the message didn't disappear
And after that, the commands :
Code:
modprobe usbcore
modprobe uhci-hcd

didn't work anymore

So I think I have done a mistake when I have recompiled my kernel, but I don't see what :?

Can you tell me what I must do to make devfs works correctly ?

The USB speedtouch modem is a problem for LOADS of people. Check out the other posts. No one seems to have a definitive answer. I have got the kernel compiled with all correct options but its still does not work.
Seriously looks like the best bet is to buy a different adsl modem.
Thats what I am going to have to do in the end. I have wasted almost 2 weeks now on this..

I know... but this is not my computer. On my computer I don't use this modem anymore. But I have used this modem before and it worked under a 2.4 kernel...
