-Does anyone know how to turn it off? I'm talking about trying to open most files with extensions, which I know are uncessecary in Linux, but most downloaded files come with them. If Gnome thinks the file's extension is wrong, it will pop up a dialog telling you to rename the file and won't let you open it by double clicking on it. -For example, trying to open .wmv files, Gnome tells me that they are ASF video files and need the proper extension. In this case I'd just delete the .wmv part of the file, but other problems I don't know how to get around: When I browse Samba shares, nautilus will not let me just double click on a PC's name to open it- apparently it has the extension of "Desktop Configuration file", so I have to type the name into the address bar. How do I turn this "feature" off? |

To make it a bit clearer, my big problem is that I can't browse Samba Shares through Nautilus by double clicking on them: Nautilus won't let me. Anyone know why? |

I have exactly the same problem. It's driving me nuts.
