I've just installed Gentoo, but can't seem to get networking to work right. During boot Gentoo detects my card as eth0 and bring it up, and if I typoe ifconfig i can se the eth0 listed as a device with mac-adress etc.
DHCP didn't seep to work though, so i manually configured my adresse, broadcast, netmask etc.
I also added the default gateway to the route-table, and entered the nameserver into the resolv.conf file.....
stil I'm only able to ping localhost and my own IP...... Pinging anything else just gives me a response from my own computer "desination host unreachable"
I've tried everything but still a nogo.
I also tried to have the SIS900 module autoloaded by the kernel without success.
Any good hints ?? - I need to have this computer online with the internet, but I can't get networking to run properly.
When I lock an the ifconfig report is says UNKNOWN for eth0 encapsulation, while it says ethernet for the loopback.... Can this mean my card isn't fully detected ??
I have had this computer wokring with Gentoo (same release) and networking earlier, but due to a crash my filesystem got garbage and the computer wouldn't boot anymore..... Now I've reinstalled but cant get netowrking to work - I have to be doing something wrong, but cant figure out what....

did it work for the install, or did you do a CD GRP install? have you added the module to the autoload? tryi /etc//init.d/net.eth0 restart and see if its giving an error. have uncommented the #eth0="dhcp" line in your /etc/conf.d (think this is where you set up the file, if not check the manual and see the proper file) |

OK, we need the following details please:
- output of "ifconfig",
- output of "lsmod",
- output of "lspci" (emerge pci-utils if you don't have it, or use a LiveCD etc.),
- output of "route -n",
- copy of "/etc/resolv.conf". |
