How do you pronounce "Gentoo"? I always pronounce it like a j, Bug I have friends who pronounce it like a hard g; but is it a 'j' sound ("Jentoo") or a hard 'g' sound (like Ghentoo?) Thanx.

Oh yeah, I use jentoo since that's the dictionary pronunciation of it which can be seen on webster.com and etc.

When you put "Jentoo" do you mean it pronounced "Gen" (like in generator) and "two". Thats how I pronounce it.

Quote:
From Webster's Revised Unabridged Dictionary (1913) :

Gentoo \Gen*too"\, n.; pl. Gentoos. [Pg. gentio gentile,
heathen. See Gentile.]
A native of Hindostan; a Hindoo. [Archaic]

Gentoo \Gen*too"\ (j[e^]n*t[=oo]"), n.; pl. Gentoos
(-t[=oo]z").
A penguin ({Pygosceles t[ae]niata). [Falkland Is.]

I'll take the first definition.

Ghentoo here. Hard G. I've heard people pronounce it GEN-too, though, in real life.
