Well, an updated version of portage should be released soon (well I hope). This update should address the ranlib problems. |

how do you go from one release to the next? do you simply install the new .dmg and it does the right thing? or should i run the uninstall.pl script first?
(I currently have the original gentoo-macos.dmg installed, and I was about to install gentoo-macos-20040726.dmg but wasn't sure if I should or not) _________________ http://www.desertsol.com/~kevin/ppc |

You should be able to reinstall the new dmg without needing to use the uninstall.pl script, although you might as well use the script to be safe. (you don't have to unmerge the packages you have already installe,d but you do have the option to with the uninstall.pl script. ) The script was actually written for the purpose of fully removing the software. When the new portage is released, I think it should be possible to actually update it using portage itself. |
