PostPosted: Sat Sep 04, 2004 5:29 am    Post subject: PS2 mouse troubles Reply with quote

I recently moved my HD to a new computer, and I have not been able to get the ps2 mouse working after this upgrade. The mouse does work on the other computer on the KVM switch, as well as the Gentoo Live CD or in Windows. I assume that it is something I have compiled wrong in the kernel, but I can't seem to figure out what. I have review several other mouse/ps2 threads here, but have not yet come up with a solution.

When I boot to the live CD, I get the following settings:
MOUSETYPE="ps2"
XMOUSETYPE="PS/2"
MOUSE_FULLNAME="Generic 3 Button Mouse (PS/2)"
MOUSE_DEVICE="/dev/psaux"

When I boot to my system, there is a /dev/psaux, soft linked to /dev/misc/psaux which does exist.

This is my dmesg:

Edit your XF86Config like this....
Code:
Section "InputDevice"
   Identifier  "Mouse0"
   Driver      "mouse"
   Option       "Protocol" "auto"
   Option       "Device" "/dev/input/mice"
   Option       "ZAxisMapping" "4 5"
EndSection

I actually use xorg, so my xorg.conf file contains

Code:

    Identifier  "Mouse1"
    Driver      "mouse"
    Option "Protocol"    "Auto"
    Option "Device"      "/dev/mouse"

Which used to work before I upgraded the cpu and motherboard. I think my problem is more fundamental than this, because I can't get gpm to work, and /dev/misc/psaux does not output any characters when I move the mouse.

BTW, /dev/mouse is also soft linked to /dev/misc/psaux

Was it the same brand hardware? Maybe you have stuff in your kernel that is conflicting...

It is an AMD processor, but a completly different motherboard. One distinction I noticed is that the ps2 info seems to come in via the isa bus, even though there are not isa slots on the board at all. I originally had disable isa in my kernel, but reenabled it after I found that out.

I'm thinking that maybe you have motherboard drivers for your old one...

Maybe you should re-download your kernel sources, and recompile. It'll probably work abfter that.

Yehaaaa!

upgraded gentoo-dev-sources and recompiled the new 2.6.8-gentoo-r3 kernel and things are back to working great!!!!!!

Thanks for the suggestions!
