The 1.4_rc1 CD does not boot on my system. There is immediately a message that says that it can't find sector size and that it is using a default of 0b00 or something. It locks up right after that.
Can I circumvent this problem by simple unpacking the stage3-bzip, chrooting to where I unpacked it and continue the installation (kernel compiling etc) from there? |

If you can boot into a linux system and can execute chroot (and have the spare space) you can install the system from there. Just boot and execute the install docs, but /mnt/cdrom is now a different medium. I installed this gentoo (1.4) from within gentoo (1.2) which I installed from within debian.
Well you need a seperate partition ofcourse.
