Installing ALSA?

Should I? or Shouldn't I?

I have a SoundBlaster Live! Value Soundcard and a 4.1 speaker system (two front, two back, s/w)/ I've been reading in other forums that in order to have all channels functional I would need to install ALSA.

If true, how would I go about installing ALSA? Please be as detailed as possible.

I suggest before you emerge ALSA, you check out gentoo's ALSA guide.

where are you finding this list of guides... i keep on going to the gentoo documentation page and I cant even find ALSA on it.

works great on mine, i just read the alsa guide thats it nothing more.

if you follow alsa guide, you should have no problem.
