i can't find dcgui-qt in the portage tree anymore. emerge -s dcgui produces nothing, on packages.gentoo.org it vanished but it still can be found on gentoo-portage.com. is it just me or dcgui-qt was removed? and if it was removed may i ask why?

If you want newest stable version (0.3.3) you need to

ACCEPT_KEYWORDS="~x86" emerge -av valknut (assuming that you're using x86)

thanks for the info oizone! that wasn't quite an obvious name change ;)

and Oktane, please don't recommend the ACCEPT_KEYWORDS method! too much of that made my system very unstable at one time. read more about the issue in this thread https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic.php?t=163377

Actually 0.3.3 is the newest STABLE version of DCGUI-QT. I have no idea why it is masked...

it doesn't really matter if the packagae itself i stable in the author's opinion: what's important for emerge is whether it's masked in portage or not. if you emerge some packages with ACCEPT_KEYWORDS and then run a emerge -U world, it might screw up things seriously. probably not in the case of dcdui-qt, but i'm very weary of the ACCEPT_KEYWORDS-method of emerging, because it screw*d up my system not long ago ;)

I've added
Code:

net-p2p/valknut ~x86

to
Code:

/etc/portage/package.keywords

to allow masked packages only for valknut.
this surely won't mess up your system.
