I just built a new AMD64 machine. I have always had my old computer(P4) setup as an NFS server for my laptop so today I connected to my old machine via NFS to transfer all my files. NFS and connecting went fine with no errors on both machines, but once I tried to transfer my files NFS would just hang. I could cd into my NFS server fine and transfering small files such as my gaim prefs went fine but when I tried to transfer all of my et maps it would copy over two files and just sit there, no net traffic at all. I had my laptop connect and everything went fine. What am I missing on my new machine?

Thanks

nuke

There has been some NFS weirdness with recent kernels (e.g. 2.6.8 2.6.9-rc1)

What kernel(s) are you running on the different machines involved here?

My old machine(the server) and my laptop both run 2.6.8.1 vanilla and my new machine runs 2.6.9-rc1 vanilla.

I had NFS trouble with 2.6.9-rc1. If you need that, apply one of the latest bk-patches, or revert to 2.6.8.1.

Well Im starting to revert. This is actually the first time ive had a problem with a rc kernel in the 2.6 series. Well hopefully they'll fix it by the time 2.6.9 comes up.

Thanks

I should have mentioned, I also had trouble with files over 2 gig, I had to enable NFS TCP support in the server kernel, and mount the shares on my client boxen using the TCP option. I also increased the wsize/rsize options to 16384.
