I have a network card whose driver freezes my system when I have a lot of network traffic. Up to twice a day sometimes. A few weeks ago I broke down and spent 10 bucks on a different network card. For about two weeks, I havent had a single freeze.

using rc-update, I took eth0 out of the start up and didnt have any problems for a couple weeks. Today, however, it (eth0) decided it want to start up for some reason, and all my traffic is going through eth0. I know it wasnt before, it was all going through eth1. So my question is this: even though I removed it from the start up scripts, how do I make it so my system doesnt even attempt to use it?

Im guessing something thought it needed eth0 to work, so it started it. Will removing:
iface_eth0="dhcp"
from /etc/conf.d/net suffice? Or will that cause other problems?

Is there a way to "point" eth0 to eth1 so that any app thinking it needs to start eth0 will see that its already going?

Hope this made some sense.

If its not itegrated into the mother board i would remove it from the system entirely (physically) and then setup the system accordingly. then you will never have to worry about it again.

Can you turn it off in the BIOS ? that way you can treat the new one as eth0 with no probs.
