Device management deamon don't get started!

I've just rebootet my server, and now it won't start.
When i boot it gets to devfsd and then it writes "Started device management deamon v1.3.25 for /dev" after that nothing is happening. If i then strikes ctrl+c it activates swap, mount root fs read-only and then it runs fschk which fails with this error msg.:"fsck.ext3: No such file or directory while trying to open /dev/hda3"
I have tried to emerge devfsd, emerge baselayout.
the last thing i recall to have done is emerge system -uv
kernel vanilla-2.4.24
