please bear in mind i am completly new to linux and dont have a clue what im doing
im trying to boot from a liveCD, but it seems to have difficulty finding my hard drive at first. after about 10 minuits it sucsesfully boots, but still cant see anything when i try an #fdisk
ive got m$ on a seperate partition, so i know my disk isnt screwed, so why cant linux see it?

In that case, please be prepared to read - a lot.
Don't just read about Gentoo, read everything related to getting started in Linux you can find.

What kind of disk is it - SCSI ? SATA ?
Try booting it with
