|

I'm very new to Gentoo and just went through my 1st update. Afterwards my Gnome desktop has been misbehaving. I may have messed up settings in /etc I'm not sure. Anyway here are the 2 issues I'm having
1) The gnome-settings-daemon in /usr/libexec fails to run when I login. I can run it manually and it works okay. What have I done to mess this up? Where can I go to fix this problem.
2) All applets are failing with a CORBA error:
The panel encountered a problem while loading "OAFIID:GNOME_ShowDesktopApplet".
Details: Unknown CORBA exception id: 'IDL:omg.org/CORBA/INV_OBJREF:1.0'
I have tried running 'emerge gnome' and rebuilding everything but it doesn't fix the problems.
Item #2 is really annoying because whenever I minimze a window I "loose it" becuase the window list applet doesn't run. Where can I look to diagnose this problem?
Thanks

I found this fedora discussion with a google search. The brute force solution was to do a reboot. Must have been a dependency daemon which was not running (or the "old" version was running).
Possilby restarting X would have worked just as well. |
