Hi heres another grub issue...
I reinstalled today, as i have managed to get a scsi hdd for this box. Install went fine no issues, i think i have solved some of my last issues by starting again)
setup grub as my boot manager but it would not allow me to set the following:
root (sd0,0)
As it gave me an error stating that there was "an error passing number".
so i set it to:
root (hd0,0)
then when i defined root in grub.conf i set it as /dev/sda3
Now when i reboot i get a message from the bios "unable to load operating system"
Anyone know how i can fix this? i compiled the aic7xxx drivers for the new and old as part of the kernel (which i hope was the right thing to do as i do not know which to use) my scsi driver is onboard and is an adaptec aic-7890.
I have looked on the search but could not find any similar issues.
current drive setup:
60gig ide, dont want used, so have nothing done to this, i may actually unplug it .
9.1g scsi 3 partitions, sda1 as /boot sda2 as swap and sda3 as /
Thanks in advance
Andy

I was searching a bit on the net, and here i found this interresting thing..

14. GRUB hangs when accessing my SCSI disk.
Check if you have turned on the support for INT 13 extension (LBA). If so, disable the support and see if GRUB can now access your SCSI disk. This will make it clear that your SCSI BIOS sucks.
For now, we know the following doesn't provide working LBA mode:
* Adaptec AIC-7880
In the case where you have such a SCSI controller unfortunately, you cannot use the LBA mode, though GRUB still works fine in the CHS mode (so the well-known 1024 cylinders problem comes again to you).

now you have the 7890? anyway.. could be related... |
