|
|
Like most of you gentooers, I read slashdot almost daily. I've been looking forward to the anticipated Xorg release for quite some time now. I absolutely need by transparencies and drop shadows, and I am looking for Xorg but I can't find it!
Slashdot said, Quote: | "The developers of X.org have just release the long-desired version 6.8.0. This release brings real translucency and allows one to set values on different windows. Also, nifty drop shadows as well as XDamage, an extention that limits redrawing of windows to only the areas that were damaged. The Xcomposite extention is still not stable, but it works well for some people. Why not give it a shot?" |
They linked to here which gave us this:
Quote: | Please see the X.org website later today for the annoucment |
And the Xorg site says nothing new.
Gentoo doesn't have it, because it's not in portage. Here's a link to save the emerge sync. Save the Sync!
Now the question is: Where Is My X.org 6.8.0?
Note: This thread was not intended to bash Xorg; in fact, I think they are GODS |

My ass, it's released only today and already people are bitching about the ebuild?!?
Please keep in mind that xorg-x11 is a big application and the ebuild needs a bit of testing before releasing it into portage, also that gentoo is a community project and the gentoo devs are volunteers.
If you need an ebuild so badly, try to adjust xorg-x11-6.7.99.904.ebuild, it's not that hard. |

I guess you don't pay very close attention to the now very large "XOrg 6.7.99.x / 6.8.0" thread. The "announcement" was made prematurely, although they say there will be an announcement for the official release later today. ian!, however, has made an experimental ebuild of the current CVS version of xorg-x11 if you simply cannot wait any longer. I don't know if the actual release will be any different than what you'll be getting from that ebuild, but if you want stable, it's probably a good idea to wait. |
