I just accidently rm -rf ed / . I was able to control -c it before it destroyed my whole system, but it got /bin and some of /etc (passwd, so I can't su). Should I boot from my livecd and re-emerge baselayout? How will I fix /bin ? HELP MEEEEEEEEE!!!!
EDIT: Well, maybe I can get through this... I guess there's no time like the present to switch to reiser4... |

simplest way is to backup /home, /etc (if anything is left), /root, and your kernel config, then install again.
if you have another machine with same CFLAGS, you can duplicate its /bin dir (boot from the livecd if you have to) _________________ http://www.desertsol.com/~kevin/ppc |

wow, at first I was thinking how the hell did ya pull that off but than i looked at my keyboard and I am suprised this is not a more common event. The / and Enter key are awfull close.
I may try to set up some sort of script/alias to prevent this from happening just need to borrow someones linux box to test it out anyone?
I would say the only thing you can do is grab your /home dir and start over. _________________ write quit bang |

My first reaction is to laugh. I've been there. hehe...
back up what you can, if you can, reinstall. =)
I made it a habit to add my flags at the end of my statements... ie: rm blah/ -fr
I'm a survivor too. |

Good idea! I guess I knew it would come to this...well, I guess I have been granted an opportunity to use reiser4. |
