My gentoo linux install was working A-OK a few days ago. What changed? Two things, exactly; I migrated to udev and upgraded my processor. udev apppeared to be working correctly after installing it, and gentoo seemed okay with the new processor (a p4 with hyperthreading).
Now, Gentoo often fails to boot around the point where INIT changes the runlevel to 3, with no error message (just a blinking cursor and a hang) and if I DO Get past that, in X I'll get hard locks, with again, no error message.
Where can I check for any error messages? My dmesg looked fine upon examinination, no errors or anything...
BTW it isn't a hardware problem, as Windows is working fine with it.

| Windows working alright isn't proof that it's a software problem... it's worth running memtest and something like cpuburn, to be sure. |

Those two take forever...ah, well. In the meantime where can I find my system logs and find out why this thing is crashing? |

Ok I guess such logs don't exist 
Anyway upon further examination it's a kernel problem. I can chroot into my gentoo and it works fine there, so it's not a hardware problem.
Only problem is I need to get a reiser4 patch! Where can I find one? the one HERE:
http://thebsh.namesys.com/snapshots/LATEST/
does not apply cleanly to 2.6.8.1
Where can I find one that will? |

Fixed it by removing hyper-threading support from the kernel. Sigh, and I so wanted to use it in linux  |
