I followed the tutorial at: https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic.php?t=41099&highlight=ntpd and started ntpd, verified that it;s running and did the ntpq -p. The time was 2 mins off as soon as I set it up (which wasn't any different from when i manually set the time with `date`... the machine was left on all night and now, it's 5 hours behind. It's clear ntpd is not runing, teh drift is major and is a problem within itself but can someone review that tutorial, is it still valid? _________________ I breathe drum & bass. I bleed UNIX. |

ntpd won't help if your system clock isn't reasonably accurate to begin with. Several hours a day is definetly too much for ntpd, it will just give up in disgust. You must find the cause for your clock drift and fix it first. |
