Hullo

althoug there are some posts about the same problem, their solution just dont seem to fix mine.

i want to run X as a user and when i run startx at first i got error messages about
/usr/log/Xorg.0.log cant be opend, and other permission stuff, so i changed the permission
of tha /usr/log/ dir and of the Xorg logfiles to 777. The first error messages have dissapiert, but now i get the following (from Xorg.0.log):

.
.
.
#some stuff (should not be important or?)

(II) Module bitmap: vendor="X.Org Foundation"
compiled for 6.7.0, module version = 1.0.0
Module class: X.Org Font Renderer
ABI class: X.Org Font Renderer, version 0.4
(II) Loading font Bitmap
(II) LoadModule: "pcidata"
(II) Loading /usr/X11R6/lib/modules/libpcidata.a
(II) Module pcidata: vendor="X.Org Foundation"
compiled for 6.7.0, module version = 1.0.0
ABI class: X.Org Video Driver, version 0.7

Fatal server error:
xf86OpenConsole: Server must be suid root

Please consult the The X.Org Foundation support
at http://wiki.X.Org
for help.
Please also check the log file at "/var/log/Xorg.0.log" for additional informati
on.

Do i realy have to suid the xserver??? I hope not.

Can someone help me with this? thx

Make sure you have the "startx" file SUID-ed

this happens everytime I re-emerge X.Org, not a problem with XFree.
